The ladder tournament will run throughout the season. The rules are as follows.
OBJECT. The object of the tournament is to climb the ladder by challenging a player higher up the ladder.
WINNER. The winner of the competition will be the player occupying the top position of the ladder at the end of the last Tuesday before the AGM.
CHALLENGES. A player may challenge any other player above him in the ladder. There is a special rule for the top three positions. These can only be challenged by a player not more than three places below them.
If the challenger wins, and the players are more than 3 places apart on the ladder, the winner goes up two places first, and then the loser drops two places
A challenge may be made verbally, or by e-mail (either directly or through the tournament controller). If a player fails to take up a challenge for more than 3 weeks, then the challenger wins by default, and may, on appeal to the controller, exchange places with the defaulting player. No player may have more than one challenge outstanding at any one time, and any player who has received a challenge must play that game before accepting or issuing any further challenges.
No player may challenge the same player more than once in four weeks.
GAMES Players will draw lots for colours. The lower graded player shall have 75 minutes playing time, and the higher graded player will lose one minute for each 3 points difference in the grades. For this purpose, ungraded players will have a notional grade of 75.
All moves must be completed within the allowed time.
START The competition will start on June 1st 2010. The starting position of the ladder will be in reverse grade order. Only players who have entered will be shown on the ladder
DISPUTES Any disputes arising should be referred to the tournament controller, or in his absence, the club secretary or chairman.
