1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. d4 cxd4 5. Nxd4 a6 Right, I'm out of my opening knowledge now. Revert to basics. Develop and attack f7. 6. Bc4 e6 7. O-O Be7 I want to get the other bishop out, but no square seems particularly good. 8. Bg5 Qc7 9. Bb3 b5 If he pushes that pawn again, I'll have to move my N, then he picks up the e=pawn. 10. Bxf6 Bxf6 11. Re1 Nc6 Now if he pushes b4, my N has to go backwards and I'll be on the defensive. But I see a tactic! I *think* I can get 3 pawns for the N and stop him castling. 12. Ncxb5 axb5 13. Nxb5 Qd8 14. Nxd6+ Kf8 Well that worked OK. Now consolidate a bit. 15. c3 Ra7 Rd7 and the N is unsustainable. So... 16. Nxc8 Qxc8 Now, basic plan -yes I've got a plan! - will be to push q-side pawns, but I don't think it's viable until I've got rid of some pieces. Q side holds itself together at moment, so get QR into play before he gets his KR out. 17. Qe2 g6 18. Rad1 Kg7 I think I'm ok here, but can't think of a good move. If I push my QR forward, trying to double rooks, he can hit it with N or B. Q out to Q side can be chased around by his R. The move I make stops his N coming to e5, but I don't like exposing my king like that. It's a bit like walking around with my flies open. 19. f4 Rd8 In line with my 'plan' of getting at least two heavy pieces off before pushing pawns... 20. Rxd8 Qxd8 21. Rd1 Qb8 22. e5 Be7 Try to get my Q active without it being hit by anything. 23. Qe4 Qb6+ 24. Kf1 Bc5 I missed that. I have to watch stuff like Bg1 and Qf2 mate. Time to go defensive. I have no attack anyway. 25. Qf3 Ne7 Must stop Nf5 26. g4 Qb5+ 27. Qd3 Up to here, I think I'm ok, but now it all goes pear-shaped. 27... Qc6 Qh1 wins a pawn. 28. Qg3 Rd7 I've been trying for so long to get heavy pieces off that I almost automatically take. Perhaps this is where I should've started to push pawns. a4 maybe? What do you think? email S Fishburne with ideas. 29. Rxd7 Qxd7 30. Qf3 Qd2 I had seen this coming, and thought I had the answer. 31. Qe2 Qxf4+ I'd covered everything but that P. Survival time! 32. Kg2 Guarding against Bg1, and getting K in defensive position in the unlikely event that Qs get swapped. 32... h5 It must be right to get Q and B linked, mustn't it? 33. Bd1 hxg4 Only now do I realise that retaking that P lets him have the e pawn. I had had fantasies of Qf6 ch supported by that. Last hope really. 34. Qxg4 Qf2+ He doesn't even have to bother with the e-pawn. 35. Kh3 Qf1+ If Q blocks, I lose the bishop. If K moves, it's forced mate wherever he goes. ..Nf5 and ..Be3 if necessary. Therefore ...resigns. I think I'm playing too much. More than once a fortnight and I start to lose. 0-1
