I'm glad I'm not board 1, he's got to play in the kitchen. (This was an away game) 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Time for Bird's variation. One day I'll have to look up what you're supposed to do after this next move.
3... Nd4 4. Nxd4 exd4 5. c3 dxc3 6. bxc3 Looks as though he'll get a big centre, but I didn't have much choice
6... c6 7. Bc4 Falling behind in development already. I know this next move looks bad, but I have my reasons.
7... Qh4 8. Qf3 Nf6 If e5, then Qxc4, exf6, Qe6 check, winning a pawn. If he doesn't protect e4, I go Qxe4, winning a pawn again.
9. Bxf7+ That's a surprise! It's the sort of thing I do. My king will be uncomfortable, but he hasn't got enough pieces out to cause me much problem, and Qxe4 is still on.
9... Kxf7 10. e5 Qe4+ 11. Qxe4 Nxe4 I think he missed my Q move. It's looking good.
12. d4 Uh-oh. I could lose my Knight here if I'm not careful. I wondered why he thought so long. The next few moves are trying to save the Knight.
12... Be7 13. h4 g5 14. hxg5 Nxg5 15. f4 Ne6 16. f5 Looks like I've saved my knight. He's got these pawns, but I should survive as he hasn't got much developed.
16... Nd8 17. Bh6 Bf8 18. Bg5 Ke8 I nearly missed that he could take the knight for nothing! Move 18, and I've got 1 pawn and no pieces developed! Petrosian, eat your heart out!
19. Bxd8 Kxd8 I was planning Nf7, so the swap was probably a good move for him, even though neither of us has any pieces developed..
20. g4 These pawns look a bit dangerous. Try to stop them.
20... h6 21. g5 Damn! I can't take it. I was counting on that. I may have to sac a piece soon.
21... Ke8 22. g6 d6 23. f6 Be6 24. g7 OK here we go. I think this is winning. I should come out a pawn up, which i would have been in the first place.
24... Bxg7 25. fxg7 Rh7 26. exd6 Kf7 27. Nd2 Rd8 28. Ne4 Kxg7 29. Nc5 Bc8 30. |
