1. d4 I only have one tactic against this.
1... c5 2. dxc5 I have a trap now. ...e6, b4 a5, c3 ab, cb Qf6 winning a piece.
2... e6 3. Be3 Curses! He must know the trap. Still, that bishop looks badly placed.
3... Nc6 4. Nc3 Nf6 5. Nf3 Better get my pawn back before it's too late.
5... Qa5 6. a3 He's threatening b4, but this move complicates things, and I bust his pawns up. e.g. b4 Nxc3, bxa5 Nxd1, Rxd1
6... Ne4 7. Bd2 He's wasted a tempo. I can make him waste another one and get my pawn back.
7... Nxc3 8. Bxc3 Qxc5 9. e3 I don't like these sort of openings where your Q side is all open, but I don't want a backward pawn.
9... d5 10. Qd2 I suppose he's threatening Bb4. Perhaps I'm paranoid, but I think my g7 pawn could go.
10... f6 11. b4 Qb6 12. Be2 Be7 13. O-O Qc7 The last move intends Bd6 followed by Ne5 and then Nxf3 something takes back and then Bxh2
14. b5 That's a bit of a blow. Have to retreat.
14... Nd8 15. a4 Have to put astop to this.
15... b6 16. Rfd1 Bb7 17. a5 If he goes Bd4 then ab it could be nasty, so...
17... Bc5 18. a6 Bc8 This is beginning to look familiar. All my pieces going to the back rank. Therefore there must be some good tactics!
19. Ne1 This move is too clever for me, so just carry on with my plan.
19... O-O 20. Bb4 No choice.
20... Bxb4 21. Qxb4 Qc5 The idea is Qxc5 bxc5, and then if b6, axb, giving me two pieces attacking the rook's pawn.
22. Qb3 I can't see any immediate threats by him, except Nd3 hitting my Q, which I want to move anyway, so I've got time to unravel things a bit.
22... Nf7 23. Nd3 Qc7 24. Nf4 Rd8 This was preparation for e5 eventually, freeing my bishop.
25. Ra4 Rd6 If I get time, I could play Bd7 and then Be8 and R(a8)-d8
26. Nh5 Baffled again. I can't drive it away with g6 because Nxf6, so develop.
26... Ne5 27. Rad4 This is where the tactics get interesting. eg ....Nc4, Bxc4 dxc4, Rxc4 Rxd1 mate!
27... Nc4 28. Rg4 Kh8 Rd7 doesn't work because ...Rd7, Bxc4 dxc4, Rxd7 Qxd7, Rxg7
29. Rxg7 Qc5 30. Rf7 Rd7 31. Rxd7 Bxd7 Pawn down, but at least I've got some pieces moving.
32. Rb1 I think he's missed something.
32... Nd2 33. Qb2 No! He must have seen the fork. If ....Nxb1, Qxf6 ch Kg1, Qg7 mate!
33... d4 This seems better than ...e5, Nxf6 hitting my bishop, and still leaving a vulnerable pawn.
34. exd4 Qg5 I am looking at e5 then Bh3 for me. Also the rook is en prise again.
35. Rd1 Rg8 36. g3 Forced. OK, I'm 2 pawns down, but I've got some pieces in play.
36... Be8 37. f4 Qf5 I'd rather keep pieces on, but at least I stay even this way.
38. Rxd2 Bxh5 39. Bxh5 Qxh5 40. Qb3 He's wimped out. He's trying to cash in on his 2 extra pawns. Well I've got a few tricks left yet.
40... Qf5 41. Qd3 Qxf4 Ha ha! He hadn't seen that one!
42. Kg2 h5 This was the time control. he had taken 50 mins, me 85. (42 moves in 90 mins). I'm actually feeling quite hopeful. Only 1 pawn down, and his king's in trouble.
43. Rf2 Qg5 44. Qf3 f5 45. d5 If I take this, I lose a pawn. eg ...ed, Qxf5 Qxf5, Rxf5 forking two pawns.
45... h4 46. dxe6 I think I'm lost now. His pawn's nearly queened and my attack doesn't seem to work. But keep trying.
46... Qh6 47. Qxf5 hxg3 48. hxg3 Rxg3+ 49. Kxg3 I'm after a perpetual. It seemed better than trying to defend a hopeless position several pawns down.
49... Qg7+ 50. Kh2 Qc7+ 51. Rf4 I' counted on Qxc2 ch, and forgot that his Q was covering that square. The only other option was Qh7 ch, but then the Q swap wins easily.
